im telling you, just forget about that silly xbox 360 streaming. Its always having problems at its current build, plus you need to deal with the gayness of it only accepting a few codecs and the need of having Windowz MediaCenter on a pc at home.
That last part just makes me laugh. IF you have aPC running MediaCenter, shouldnt THAT be whats hooked up to your TV in the livingroom? Lets not forget that at the present using your 360 for anythign more that casual use (ie only a few hours at a time) runs the risk of you getting a bricked system. Although the soft red glow emanating from the front of your 360 is pleasing to the eye, it doesn't do much else at that point.
Here is the approach you need to take. Go get yourself an original xbox + modchip + big harddrive + XBMC, this should all total about $100 if your slick enough. Once you get it up and running you will have everything you could want and a little more in a mediacenter.
